LANDSCAPE/SEASCAPE WATERCOLORS & PASTELS
Rooted in the landscape tradition of his mentor, Oskar Kokoschka, Ensrud’s landscape/seascape artworks on paper reflect his ongoing explorations of the watercolor medium. He engages his creative intuition by painting outside (‘plein air’) allowing his paintbrush to dance across the surface and record his immediate experiences in nature. Working within the framework of traditional landscapes, Ensrud often breaks from convention by creating images on the verge of abstraction, distilling them down to their purest forms, rhythms, luminosity and colors.
